Valheim 1.0
A returning-player guide to the major 1.0 additions, old-world behavior, achievements, and mod compatibility.
Major additions and old-world choices
Valheim 1.0 adds the Deep North biome, more than 80 buildable pieces, more than 30 crafting materials, more than 20 food items, and upgradeable pockets.
You can continue an old save where you left it, and an existing world can receive new content. However, biome generation works properly only in unexplored areas, and starting again is recommended for the best experience.
Checks before returning
- Should I continue my old world or restart?
- Continue the old save if you want to retain your existing progress. Proper new-biome generation applies to unexplored terrain. Restart if you want the recommended experience from the beginning.
- How can developer commands affect achievements?
- Commands such as freefly are exceptions, but using most commands, including spawn, permanently flags the current character and world save as ineligible for achievements.
- What should I expect from existing mods?
- Mods can take time to become compatible with the updated base game, and their functionality is not guaranteed. Valheim 1.0 has no official PC or console mod support and no Steam Workshop feature.
